A Portal Opened in Nosara: The Opening of Portals of Light

On the evening of February 7, GONA Gallery welcomed guests into a luminous and contemplative experience with the opening of Portals of Light, a solo exhibition by Harsita Eshel.

As the sun began to set over Guiones, visitors gathered inside the gallery, surrounded by layered compositions of texture, geometry, and elemental materials. The atmosphere felt calm yet vibrant — a reflection of the works themselves.

A Living Field of Presence

Portals of Light presents a new body of work created through a ceremonial and meditative process. Eshel’s paintings are built in layers, integrating acrylics and oils with natural materials such as sand, stone, pigments, glass, driftwood, and crystals. Each piece carries a tactile presence that invites viewers to slow down and engage beyond the visual.

Throughout the evening, guests moved quietly between the works, often pausing for long moments. Conversations unfolded naturally — about symbolism, sacred geometry, intention, and the subtle energy that radiates from each canvas.

Recurring archetypal forms — the Spiral and the Angel — became focal points of reflection. The Spiral suggested movement, growth, and continuity. The Angel evoked openness and expanded awareness. Together, they created a dialogue between structure and flow, matter and spirit.

An Intimate Connection with the Artist

One of the most meaningful aspects of the opening was the presence of the artist himself. Harsita Eshel engaged warmly with visitors, sharing insights into his process and the intention behind the work. His approach to painting — as a practice of alignment between heart, mind, and material — resonated deeply with the community gathered that evening.

The exchange felt less like a formal art opening and more like a shared space of exploration.

Art in the Spirit of Nosara

In many ways, Portals of Light felt at home in Nosara. The exhibition’s focus on presence, nature, and consciousness reflects values that are deeply woven into the rhythm of this place.

The opening night was not just about viewing art — it was about experiencing it. Guests left not only having seen the works, but having felt them.

Portals of Light remains on view at GONA Gallery through March 15, inviting visitors to continue stepping through the portal.
